How to Tell a Story
Stories have conflict, structure, and meaning. Everyone can tell a story; we actually do it every day. In its most basic form, a story is (1) a compelling character (2) who overcomes a significant challenge, so that (3) they can change their world. Or at least they try to. Grab a notepad and start jotting down your answers to these questions:
-
Who is your character?
-
What do they want?
-
Why can’t they get it?
-
What are the consequences if they fail and if they succeed?
-
How do they have to change in order to overcome the obstacle?
-
Do they succeed or fail?
-
What did they learn?
