How to Tell a Story

Stories have conflict, structure, and meaning. Everyone can tell a story; we actually do it every day. In its most basic form, a story is (1) a compelling character (2) who overcomes a significant challenge, so that (3) they can change their world. Or at least they try to. Learn how to tell your stories in video using Filmstacker.

Grab a notepad and start jotting down your answers to these questions:

  • Who is your character?

  • What do they want?

  • Why can’t they get it?

  • What are the consequences if they fail and if they succeed?

  • How do they have to change in order to overcome the obstacle?

  • Do they succeed or fail?

  • What did they learn?
